Our People

Jeffrey M. Brown
Of Counsel

For over a decade, Jeff has dedicated his practice exclusively to representing management in almost every aspect of traditional labor and employment matters. Jeff has extensive experience as lead counsel in numerous traditional labor and employment law matters including arbitration, matters before the Illinois Labor Relations Board and Illinois Education Labor Relations Board, before state and federal courts, administrative agencies, and in collective bargaining negotiations.

Over the course of his career, Jeff has helped his clients obtain favorable results concerning issues related to the appropriateness of discipline, discharge, layoff, drug testing, reasonable accommodations, affirmative action, reorganization, job classification, constitutional issues, and management rights. Jeff also has a proven track record of obtaining no cause findings on behalf of his clients and has successfully mediated favorable outcomes in numerous cases before the IDHR, EEOC, Illinois and U.S. Departments of Labor, and the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights. With respect to collective bargaining, Jeff’s experience runs the gamut from first contract negotiations to pattern bargaining, effects bargaining, and strike preparation. Jeff emphasizes the importance of proactive labor and employment strategies by regularly providing day-to-day counseling regarding managing the ADA, FMLA, and FLSA, best employment practices, management training, effective supervision, and discipline.

To maintain a balanced practice and offer a full range of services, Jeff also represents clients in a wide array of legal matters, including municipal governance, FOIA and Open Meetings Act compliance, all aspects of higher education law, litigation, and appellate advocacy.

  • Prior to joining the firm, Jeff attained invaluable public sector experience in his prior roles as the City of Chicago’s Associate Chief Labor Counsel, Cook County’s Deputy Director for Labor Relations and Northeastern Illinois University’s University Counsel.
